01 / Assessment fees

How much does an assessment cost?

Assessment fees are based on the professional time your assessment needs. Every assessment has a set number of clinician hours, so you know the total before it starts.

Standard professional fee

$250

per clinician hour, inc GST

The same rate applies to every service. Your total is the number of clinician hours multiplied by $250, and a written fee estimate stating the exact hours and total is issued before anything begins. Test materials, protocols and licensing are never billed separately.

Typical totals for the most common assessments

Combined autism and ADHD assessments save $750 against booking both separately. If an assessment needs fewer hours than estimated we bill the lower figure, and we won’t exceed the estimate without your agreement. See the full list on each service page.

02 / Inclusions

What’s included in your assessment fee?

The sessions, professional time and deliverables covered by your fee, and which services may be charged separately.

  • Intake and history-taking with you and, where relevant, your family
  • Face-to-face assessment: interview, observation and standardised testing
  • Collateral, scoring and case formulation, including internal peer review
  • A full written report with diagnosis, formulation and actionable recommendations
  • A feedback session to talk you through the findings
  • A summary letter to your referrer, at no additional charge
  • All test materials, protocols and licensing, never billed separately

Some additional appointments or services may be charged separately. See additional appointments and optional services below.

03 / The process

What happens during your assessment?

From the initial discussion to the final report, here is how the process works and where professional time is spent. Face-to-face appointments are only about a third of the work.

  1. 01

    Referral and triage

We confirm which pathway fits the question being asked, and say so if a different service would answer it better.

    2 business days
  2. 02

    Consultation and estimate

We confirm the referral question and issue a written fee estimate. Nothing proceeds until it is accepted.

    1 hour
  3. 03

    Assessment appointments

Interview, observation and standardised testing. Testing is in person; interview components can be by telehealth.

    1 to 8 sessions
  4. 04

    Collateral and analysis

School, workplace and family input is gathered and measures are scored and reviewed in internal case consultation.

    1 to 6 hours
  5. 05

    Report and feedback

The report is written and talked through in a feedback session. Your referrer’s summary letter is sent the same day.

    10 to 30 business days

04 / Additional services

Court attendance and legal work fees are on our Family Law page. Fees are in Australian dollars, include GST where payable, are effective from 1 September 2026 and are reviewed annually. A fee estimate you have accepted in writing is honoured for the duration of that assessment.

05 / Funding

Funding and rebates: what you may be eligible for

Depending on the service, your circumstances and the eligibility requirements, some funding options may be available. We will always tell you before an assessment begins if no rebate is available.

Medicare

Psychological assessment and report writing are not claimable under Better Access, and a Mental Health Treatment Plan does not rebate assessment hours.

Who may be eligible: Therapy sessions with us may attract a rebate in the usual way with a GP referral.

Confirm with: your GP, or Services Australia

NDIS

We invoice self-managed and plan-managed participants directly. Assessments are generally drawn from Capacity Building: Improved Daily Living.

Who may be eligible: NDIS participants. Pre-access assessments are not NDIS-funded.

Confirm with: your plan manager or the NDIA

Private health insurance

Some extras policies cover psychology consultations, though assessment and report writing are commonly excluded. We provide itemised invoices for claiming.

Who may be eligible: Depends on your policy; we cannot advise on individual policies.

Confirm with: your health fund

Legal aid

Grants of aid are accepted for family law and immigration work.

Who may be eligible: Where the grant is confirmed in writing before the assessment begins.

Confirm with: your legal aid grant letter

Third-party payers

Where a solicitor, migration agent or support coordinator is paying, we invoice them directly.

Who may be eligible: On written approval of the fee estimate.

Confirm with: the person or organisation paying

06 / Policies

Payment and cancellation policies

Know when payment is due and what happens if an appointment needs to change. The same cancellation policy applies to therapy sessions and assessments.

Payment terms

  • Clinical assessments. A 50% deposit secures the booking, and the balance falls due before the feedback session, at which the report is released.
  • Medico-legal assessments. A 50% non-refundable deposit is payable at booking, with the balance before the assessment. Court-related work is fee-secured before it starts.
  • Instalments. Assessments above $2,000 can be paid across the appointment schedule by arrangement, at no additional cost.
  • Methods. Card, EFT and direct debit. Card surcharges are passed on at cost.

Cancellations and changes

  • More than 2 business days’ notice. No charge, rescheduled at the next available time.
  • Less than 2 business days. 50% of the scheduled session fee.
  • Less than 24 hours, or non-attendance. 100% of the scheduled session fee.
  • Illness and emergencies are waived on request. We do not apply cancellation fees where a child is unwell or dysregulated on the day.

Fees are effective from 1 September 2026. Questions about a charge? Get in touch and we will explain it.
